Michael’s Bio

Role at Cornerstone

As Cornerstone’s Pastor, I work with our team of elder-pastors to lead our church into fulfilling the vision and mission God has called us to. Our vision is to see God glorified in and through us from here to the ends of the earth. Our mission is, to God’s glory in Christ Jesus, we love God supremely, love people sacrificially and disciple others to do the same. I preach in worship services, shepherd the flock, align the ministries of the church and equip others so they fulfill the ministry God has prepared for them.

Family

I’m a native Texan and grew up right here in Central Texas. My sweet wife Chelsy, from California, is my best friend and we have four children, two boys and two girls, ages 5 to 10. At this busy stage in life, we like to take our children out to explore parks, playgrounds and other things they might find fun.

Ministry Experience

Over the past 27 years, I’ve had the honor of serving in a variety of ministry roles, including youth, singles, worship, and as a teaching pastor. For the past 15 years, I’ve served as a Lead Pastor. I’m excited to be part of what God is doing through Cornerstone as we serve this region that’s rapidly growing with people from around the globe.

Education

I studied Speech Communication at the University of Texas at Austin, graduated with my Master’s from Dallas Theological Seminary and completed my Doctor of Ministry in Discipleship, my passion, at Talbot School of Theology.

Favorite Books & Influences

Some of my favorite books include Knowing God by J.I. Packer, Desiring God by John Piper, and The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer. I was also really impacted by Jonathan Edwards years ago while researching his views on revival in a Historical Theology class. I have been shaped by the sermons of Dr. John MacArthur, the late Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones who pastored in London, as well as the late British Baptist preacher Charles Spurgeon. Like them, by God’s grace, I aim to preach passionately, graciously and expositionally through books of the Bible, to declare the whole counsel of the Word of God (Acts 20:27).
